The support we receive from major individual donors is crucial in allowing us to deliver our ambitious programme of work and to continue to think fearlessly about our next creative steps. Each donor relationship is unique; we enjoy working closely with our Patrons to understand which areas of our work most inspire them and where they would like their gift directed. Examples of ways in which Patrons currently support the orchestra include:
Learning and participation
Aurora’s award-winning learning and participation activity is already established amongst the most innovative and vibrant orchestral education programmes in the UK. Over the coming years this programme is set to grow in scope and ambition, with projects ranging from participative ‘Re-Imagined‘ projects for secondary school and undergraduate musicians to Far, Far Away concerts for under-5s. Aurora Patrons help us develop new projects both in London and around our regional residencies, and ensure that people from all backgrounds have the chance to participate.
Commissioning
Commissioning of original work is central to Aurora’s artistic vision. The support of our Patrons has enabled us to commission not only new music by the likes of Martin Suckling, Nico Muhly and Anna Meredith, but also a host of cross-art form partnerships spanning dance, film, theatre, literature and visual art. There are several very exciting commissions on the horizon for future seasons – we’d be thrilled to talk to you about how a gift to the orchestra could help us expand this wonderful commissioning legacy.
Recordings
One of the most exciting opportunities for the orchestra to date is our multi-year international recording contract with Warner Classics, which is offering unprecedented potential to propel our creative programming approach to audiences worldwide. Probably no single development has offered greater scope to address Aurora’s conviction that orchestral music should be accessible, alive and relevant to the broadest possible audience. Aurora Patrons have already enabled the recording and release of two albums, and we look forward to further recordings in coming seasons.
Touring
Over recent seasons, Aurora Patrons have helped us develop our regional residencies in Bristol, Bury St Edmunds and Canterbury, as well as supporting international touring to prestigious venues and festivals worldwide. If you have a connection to one of our regional homes-from-home and would like to help us bring our programmes to new audiences who might otherwise have limited or no opportunity to experience live orchestral music, we’d love to hear from you.
Core support
Many of our Patrons choose not to restrict their gift to a particular area of the orchestra’s work, which means that we are able to direct the funds towards the orchestra’s core costs. Such gifts are particularly crucial to us, helping us to cover the staff costs and office overheads without which none of our programme would be possible.
